Dolbeare Park News

We have had the most amazing year at Dolbeare Park and it's great to see that the park is going from strength to strength.

We started off the year in February at the

Chris, Ian, Margaret, Nigel and Pam at Dolbeare Park would like to wish all of our guests being past, present and future a very happy and healthy 2009 and we look forward to welcoming you again in the coming year.

Since Chris and Ian have been the new owners for now nearly two years, we thought that our New Year wishes would be a perfect opportunity of highlighting some of the events that have been happening at Dolbeare Park during 2008.

We started off our year with a Caravan Club rally back in March. We were delighted to welcome them back on their Treasure Hunt weekend.

Cornwall at Easter was a little damp but the weather did nothing to dampen our spirits here at Dolbeare Park! The Easter Egg hunt was fun, we had all the family exploring the park and some Easter egg's were so well hidden they were found a few weeks later and still surprisingly edible!

Spring found us planting more trees, a beautiful flowering cherry, a frosty Silver birch and a very sweet Maple.

The Cornish hedgerows having been cut in the autumn grew much thicker and greener in the spring with carpets of wild flowers. Nigel being a handy carpenter built our ladybird houses, insect houses and bee houses from all of our recycled wood. We planted a number of buddleia at the top of the park to encourage our wild butterflies.

We also improved the entrance with new fencing, an improved barrier reader and a delightful trough for our summer and winter flowers. We fenced the lower paddock area so that it is a dedicated recreation area and dog free.

Our dog walk, at the top of the park was finished and is a peaceful haven for a short dog walk. There are many quiet country lanes around Dolbeare Park that you can explore with your dog - some do pass local pubs!

Early summer at Dolbeare Park was gorgeous, long hot sunny days, pleasant BBQ's and drinks with friends.

The peak summer though was very rainy. Fortunately for us, with our main paddock being hardstanding we survived the harshest of rain very well.

Our campers did surprisingly well since the drainage on the paddock is good and when the entrance became a little muddy, we dumped 10 tonnes of gravel - just to make sure! Our campers were delighted with our new large commercial tumble drier since a large load can dry in a very short time. All of our campers (except one) left taking their tents with them and we hope to see them all back again this year!

In between the rain showers, we were back doing Archery again in the late afternoon/evening and depending on weather a BBQ afterwards. It is a great way to meet new people and make new friends.

Archery can be fun for all the family. We have a qualified instructor who can show you the basic skills required.

During the summer, we were thrilled to be awarded the 5 star park status from Visit Britain. We were so pleased that all the work we have done to the park has been recognised.

We were also delighted to receive the Green Tourist Business Scheme 'Gold' Award for our work towards conservation, promoting the environment and the improvements made to encourage wildlife to Dolbeare Park. At present Dolbeare Park is the only touring park in the whole southwest to achieve both of these awards.

One weeks recycling!

We have also had a lot of interest in our Pitch and Store concept. This was especially good when petrol prices were very expensive.

Pitch and Store is where you leave your caravan or motorhome here in our secure storage. Every month, you have two days on the park on a hardstanding pitch with electricity. You can bank your two days by one month, so every other month you can come down and stay on the park for four days. The perfect part is that you don't have to tow your caravan home since it stays here. Your caravan can be waiting levelled on your pitch for when you arrive. It's just so easy!

Autumn and Winter months in Cornwall are truly delightful. Often the weather is sunny but cold. The beaches are empty and at their absolute best.

There are few queues and many of the summer attractions are open like the Eden Project, National Aquarium in Plymouth, Carnglaze Caverns who also host a number of music concerts.

The Eden Project in particular has many winter events such as Halloween traditions, Winter Wonderland at Christmas and parts of it are tropically warm.

Our Winter Plans

Our plans this winter are to refurbish and improve our existing amenities block with little disruption to our guests. Our refurbishment plans will include an improved washing up area which is suitable for both disabled users and children. Two family rooms with one being for disabled users. Both the gents and ladies being refurbished and improved.

We are open all winter so if you fancy a break from home to see Cornwall at one of the loveliest times of the year - we are the place to be and a warm and friendly welcome will be awaiting you.
